MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan – Filipinos marked the 122nd anniversary of the Malolos Cpngress last September 15 at the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan.
With the theme “Kongreso ng Malolos: Patnubay sa Pagtataguyod ng Bansang Nagkakaisa at Ligtas,” the rites began with a flag raising ceremony, followed by the oath to the Philippine flag and wreath-laying at the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first Philippine president at the Barasoian Church compound.
Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando, together with Malolos City Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, Vice Mayor Noel Pineda, and Rene Escalante, chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), presided over the rites.
The Malolos Congress was the country’s first legislative body. It ratified the very first Philippine Constitution that eventually proclaimed the country’s independence in 1998 from Spanish colonial subjugation.
